Version 3.3
A Book of Colors 3.3 takes your palettes where you work.
- Palette widget: a different palette every hour on your Home Screen or desktop, from your liked palettes, your own, or any pack, drawn in the layout you chose for it. Tap it to open that palette, or its small arrow for a new one right away.
- Siri and Shortcuts: ask for a random palette or a palette from a photo, or add the Open palette and Make palette from photo actions to your own shortcuts.
- Spotlight: search any palette by name and open it from there.
- Export palette: Procreate swatches, Adobe swatch exchange, a labeled PNG, or a wallpaper sized to your screen. Export PDF puts any set of palettes in one document, one per page, Letter or A4.
- Mac: an eyedropper in the menu bar samples any color on screen, in any app, keeps up to ten samples, and opens them as a new palette. Every export reports whether it saved.
- Browse has a Packs filter, with Personal for the palettes you made. Pickers come up as cards on iPad and iPhone Duo, plus a round of layout fixes.
Version 3.2
A Book of Colors 3.2 remembers how you like each palette laid out.
- Swipe the canvas to a layout you like and that palette opens the same way next time, on every device signed in to your iCloud account.
- Palettes from a photo now include a color or two that stands out, not only the ones that cover the most area.
- The palette you are building on Create survives folding your iPhone Duo, resizing a Split View, or resizing the Mac window.
- The color picker fills the page on Generate and Manual. On the Mac, saving an image tells you whether it worked.
- Fixes for syncing, upgrading from older versions, and editing.
Version 3.1
A Book of Colors 3.1 is ready for iPhone Duo.
- Open the Duo and the palette sits beside the page on the inner display, the way it does on iPad. Fold it and the actions line up under the camera.
- The page floats over the palette as a glass card on iPad, Duo, and the Mac, and the tab bar tucks away as you scroll on every screen size.
- Editing happens right on the canvas, with no chip strip in the way.
- Mac: Generate starts from the palette on your canvas, and Mono leads the harmony list.
Version 3.0
A full redesign for iOS 27 and macOS 27.
- The tab bar and palette actions float over the color as glass, and the tab bar tucks away as you scroll. On iPad, the palette sits beside the page.
- A new Library tab for palette packs, a simpler Create tab, and Ambient mode that holds one layout per palette.
- The Mac app is now a full windowed app: one window with the palette beside Browse, Create, Library, and Guide, and a keyboard shortcut for everything. The menu bar item is gone.
Version 2.4
Photo palettes you can shape.
- Create a palette from a photo, then drag the sample points around the photo to pick exactly the colors you want, with a magnifying loupe for precision on iPhone and iPad.
- Download palette and photo saves a photo and its palette together as a single image.
The Mac update went live August 6.
Version 2.3.6
- Fixed two landscape bugs: stray background color could appear beside your palettes, and controls near the edge of the screen could hide behind the camera cutout.
Version 2.3.5
- Fixed a bug where the keyboard could disappear while renaming a palette or entering a hex code.
- A small Mac update to keep it in step with iOS.
Version 2.3.4
A warmer look and a new way to search.
- Contains filter: find palettes by the colors in them.
- A rebuilt color picker: drag for saturation and brightness, slide for hue, or type a hex code. Works with VoiceOver.
- New background, cleaner cards, quieter controls. Active Browse filters stay docked under the tabs while you scroll.
- Send feedback from the Guide.
- Fixes: the editing picker no longer covers your palette, and the Mac hue slider is no longer cut off.
Version 2.3.3
Ambient mode and shuffle now follow your Browse filters.
- Filter to your liked palettes or hide a pack, and the canvas cycles through only what you see in Browse.
- Palettes you apply from Create stay put when you return to the app, edits sync more reliably across devices, and checking for updates no longer freezes the app.
- Mac: arrow keys stay put while you edit, image downloads no longer stall on large windows, and the popover fits on every display.
Version 2.3.2
- Create starts from a blank preview; Apply and Save turn on once you add color.
- Palettes need a name, and Save waits until you type one. Generated palettes never repeat a swatch.
- Editing locks the rest of the screen, the keyboard closes after Save, and the Mac popover fits the screen.
Version 2.3.1
- Confirmation messages for Save as new, renames, and canvas edits.
- Editing a built-in palette pre-fills the name as a copy. Apply is now Load.
- Fixed a crash when saving a photo palette. The editing card and name fields stay clear of the keyboard.
Version 2.3
Edit palettes, anywhere in the app.
- Tap Edit on any palette in Browse to recolor it in place: drag the chips to reorder, tap a chip to change its color, and remove or add colors up to ten.
- Edit a built-in palette and the app saves your version as a new one, leaving the original untouched.
- Or edit in full screen with a long press.
Version 2.2.3
- Export palettes as images.
- A smarter color engine, computed in a perceptual color space.
- Sync status at a glance in the Guide.
- Mac: the View menu and ⌘1 to ⌘4 open the popover to the right tab even when it is closed.
Version 2.2.2
- Fixes iCloud sync, including photo palettes that were not syncing.
- Faster refresh when you return to the app.
Version 2.2.1
- Rename palettes on both platforms, and an All option on the color-count filter.
- Synced renames now update correctly, and the Mac color-count row is no longer clipped.
Version 2.2
Your palettes now sync across iPhone, iPad, and Mac through iCloud.
- Saves, photo palettes with their source photos, generated palettes, likes, and downloaded packs all stay in sync.
- If you have used the app on more than one device, a one-time prompt lets you pick which library to start from.
Version 1.0
The first release: a book for your colors.
- Hundreds of hand-picked palettes, a palette generator, photo palettes, and one-tap hex copy.
The Mac app followed on May 19, 2026.
